Paul Byars - Lead Researcher

Paul Byars is a PhD candidate in Civil Engineering at The University of Edinburgh. He has development country experience in South Africa, Liberia and Sierra Leone. From May 2007 to April 2008, Paul was the Engineers Without Borders - UK, Edinburgh chapter President. Paul has worked with Scottish International Relief in Liberia, Christian Aid in Sierra Leone, Concern Worldwide in Sierra Leone, Mercy Corps in Scotland and EWB-UK in South Africa. He has worked on water and sanitation projects, education and logistics.

Alannah Delahunty - Gender Technology Consultant

Alannah Delahunty holds a MSc in Africa and International Development at The University of Edinburgh. She has development country experience in Kenya, Peru and Sierra Leone. Prior to her Masters, she co-founded a Canadian NGO and charity, ROTH-Reach Out To Humanity For Health. She acted as project coordinator for two construction projects. In Kenya, the project was a maternity ward and HIV/AIDS counseling centre in a rural area. In Peru, the project was a pre-primary school and community kitchen in a high-risk region for youth. Her Masters research focused on gender equity and bioenergy.

Jack Barrie - External Technical Support

Jack is a Water Engineering Consultant with Mott MacDonald. He studied Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Edinburgh. In 2010 he carried out an Engineers Without Borders (EWB-UK) placement in Cambodia. In the same year he became the president of the EWB-Edinburgh branch. Jack developed the concept of Case-Based Reasoning (CBR), a technical decision support tool, as part of his engineering masters thesis. For this he won the Galliford Try Prize for the best Meng thesis. He is based in Cambridge- England and offers technical support for the Case-Based Reasoning aspects of the project.
